About Jose Preciado
Jose Preciado is a lifelong South Bay resident dedicated to serving West Chula Vista through decades of leadership in higher education, fair housing, city government, public water utilities, and civic life.
A bilingual and bicultural community advocate, Jose has spent 27 years at San Diego State University expanding access to college, experiential learning, and student success.
He currently serves as councilman for the City of Chula Vista-Council District 2. He also serves on regional agencies and joint-power authorities representing the City of Chula Vista including as Second Vice Chair of San Diego Metro Waste Water JPA and Commission and as an alternate member with San Diego Metropolitan Transportation Service and San Diego Community Power. In May 2025, he was appointed by the Hon. Speaker of the California State Assembly Robert Rivas to the California Coastal Commission for a four year term as the representative for the San Diego Coast (May 2025- May 2029).
Rooted in the neighborhoods where he was raised, Jose continues to work for a more equitable, connected, and thriving region. Jose serves on the Board of Directors for EJE Dual Language Academy (TK-8) and has served on various community organizations and non-profits championing fair housing, public education, engaged-citizenship and social responsibility.
